Groundbreaking ceremony: new multi-storey car park in GETEC PARK.STEIN focuses on e-mobility and solar power

  • Groundbreaking ceremony on 15 January 2026, opening in early 2027
  • Consolidates previously dispersed parking areas and frees up space for other uses
  • Photovoltaic system and ample charging points for electric vehicles

Stein (AG), 15 January 2026 – GETEC PARK.STEIN held an official groundbreaking ceremony today to mark the start of construction for a seven-storey car park. The project will replace around 600 existing open-air parking spaces and promote the sustainable growth of the life sciences site in Stein. The car park is expected to open in early 2027.

The groundbreaking ceremony was presided over by Beat Kaeser (Mayor of Stein and President of the Grand Council), Urs Zimmerli (CEO of GETEC Switzerland) and Stephan Buser (Site Head of GETEC PARK.STEIN) and attended by representatives of the canton of Aargau, the municipality of Stein and the companies operating on the site.

Space for growth on a smaller footprint
By constructing the new car park, GETEC PARK.STEIN is also contributing to the implementation of the regional Sisslerfeld Sectoral Plan, which calls for the concentration of parking areas at selected mobility hubs. Thanks to its vertical design, more parking spaces will be created with significantly less land required. As a result, areas previously used for parking can be freed up for other uses.

The new multi-storey car park has over a thousand parking spaces. At the same time, around 600 existing parking spaces will be removed from the site. The net result is that around 400 additional parking spaces will be created for the growing site. The building will be constructed with prefabricated concrete elements using a method that reduces CO2 emissions by more than 22 percent compared to conventional construction.

Contributing to sustainable mobility
The car park is part of a comprehensive mobility concept designed by the life sciences park operator to make employee commutes safer and more sustainable. This includes promoting cycling with free charging stations for e-bikes and covered bike parking. GETEC also supports the authorities’ plan to connect bus lines 133 and 143 to the rail network with services running every 15 minutes. The removal of the car parks south of Schoenaustrasse will reduce traffic volume in this area.

Energy from the roof and facade
A photovoltaic system with a peak output of over 750 kilowatts is being installed on the extensively greened roof and facade of the car park. It will cover the building’s entire electricity demand and feed surplus energy into the industrial park’s grid, easing the load on the public power grid.

More than 50 charging stations for electric vehicles are planned for the opening, with the option to expand as required. Automated parking management will improve traffic flow at peak times.

Location on the rise
Since acquiring the life sciences park in 2023, GETEC Switzerland has been continuously investing in the site. “The new multi-storey car park represents responsible growth,” says Stephan Buser, Site Manager of GETEC PARK.STEIN. “It offers space, safety and convenience for anyone who needs a parking space, and makes e-mobility more attractive for commuting.”
